4 Tips to Finding the Perfect Designer Engagement Ring

Are you thinking about popping that very important question but don’t know where to start?

Our friends at Platinum Guild International have shared 4 easy tips for starting the process, and we wanted to pass along!

  1. Set A Budget

“How much should I spend on a designer engagement ring?” is a very common question. The rule of thumb is typically equivalent to two months salary, but ultimately it’s whatever you are comfortable spending.

2. Keep Your Lifestyle In Mind

Make sure you pick a setting that is conducive to your partner’s lifestyle – personal and professional. Platinum is the most secure setting for diamonds thanks to its high density and will not require your ring to be reinforced or re-shanked.

3. Choose Everlasting

Platinum is the most durable of the precious metals. Did you know the surface of your rings will actually get stronger with wear?

4. Consider The Maintenance

White gold requires rhodium plating to maintain its white finish and must be re-plated to address normal wear. This can be done as you take your ring to your jeweler for cleaning and maintenance. However, remember that platinum is naturally white and will never change color over time.

Danhov Garners Platinum Innovation Award at JCK 2015

Danhov has always been known for its unique designs and quality craftsmanship. During the past several years the brand also has created a name for itself as an award-winning jewelry designer in the bridal category. At the recent JCK tradeshow, we added another accolade.

Platinum Guild International annually hosts the Platinum Innovation Awards, challenging JCK show exhibitors to enter their most innovative platinum bridal and fashion designs.

This year, Danhov was recognized by PGI-USA for its use of precious platinum in creating a beautiful engagement ring in the category of entry level bridal – meaning the rings had to have a price point of $3500 or less.

Style ZE109, the Danhov Eleganza handcrafted, double-shank braided engagement ring, was selected by a panelist of judges comprised of bridal and fine jewelry editors and retailers as a winner. We love this engagement ring and are thrilled they did too!

Yellow Gold Gains Popularity in Bridal

Y104-OV-4

For decades white gold and platinum have been the first choice for brides-to-be. But, everything old becomes new again, so yellow gold engagement rings seem to have made a comeback.

Gold prices have helped with the surge in popularity, but it also is a shift to a softness and elegance of a more romantic era. We agree, yellow gold just feels glamorous.

In addition, recent runway shows have given a nod to a 70s vibe, which has increased demand for yellow gold in timepieces and fashion jewelry. So it isn’t surprising that the popularity in bridal would follow to create a consistent look and add warmth. However, the purity and richness of white gold or platinum will probably still continue to be the most popular when it comes to engagement rings and wedding bands.

Regardless of the metal you choose for your bridal set, don’t’ be afraid of mixing golds. Whether white, yellow or rose, they all look great together and create a look uniquely yours!

What Handmade Means at Danhov

A quick Google search of the term ‘handmade’ results in this definition: “made by hand, not by machine, and typically therefore of superior quality.”

At Danhov we take great pride in offering diamond jewelry collections that are handmade, and some that are hand-assembled. And regardless of handmade or hand-assembled, all of our bridal and fine jewelry is made in the USA.

At some companies, the term handmade is additionally interpreted as hand-assembled or hand-altered, or even hand-touched. When we say a diamond ring is handmade, we are talking about the most literal sense of the word – it really is made by hand. From start to finish, the piece of jewelry is made by the skilled hands of one of our expert jewelers. And we are honest and up front that some of our collections are hand-assembled – meaning that parts of the jewelry are individually created with a wax mold and then assembled and finished by hand to create the perfect ring.

Mass-production is not used at Danhov, and no manufactured-by-machine rings (that are then polished by hand and called handmade) have the Danhov stamp.

Our handmade and hand-assembled rings are produced one ring at a time by skilled artisans at our California office. This individual, hands-on approach further exemplifies the precision, quality and strength for which Danhov is known.
